Having a 3D printer at home is a great joy for makers, but for the family or neighbor of makers that can be a pain - day and night noises from the motors. At least that was one reason why Instructable user UglyBuddha started his project of building a heated build chamber. UglyBuddha owns a Rapman 3.2 but as soon as he began to print, he started to experience noises and warping in larger printed objects. The idea of building a chamber was more realistic than a heated bed platform because it was easier for him to construct.
So here is what he presented to us, a house for a Rapman 3.2 3D Printer. This heated chamber has a diameter of 32 x 24 x 33.5 (length x width x height) in. (81.3 x 61 x 85.1cm). It is primarily constructed from Corrugated Plastic Sheets. UglyBuddha suggested another option was to have the parts cut directly from Corrugated Plastic Sheets using a CNC Router. After each section (chamber, chamber door and heater box) was constructed or cut and assembled, he covered them with Reflectix Insulation with a hot glue gun. Gaps and corners were covered using Nashua Flex Duct Tape. After the final assembly of chamber door and heater box, the heated build chamber is ready. He uses an Acurite Wireless Thermometer to monitor the temperature inside of the chamber and keep the temperature around 95°F(35°C).
UglyBuddha is pretty satisfied with his print results. "I am no longer experiencing warping and there is also a noticeable dampening of the sound which the printer motors create." he wrote.
Since the Rapman 3.2 has relatively large print area, this chamber could also accommodate a different 3D printer such as Prusa Mendel or similar RepRaps.
