While the designers of Dreambox wanted to provide a vending machine that creates and dispenses designs on the spot, and allows 3D printing enthusiasts to pick it up anytime they want, another company, Solid Prototype, is trying to make 3D printing more accessible.
Austin-based 3D printing company Solid Prototype is now offering next-day service, so anyone can get their 3D creations within a single day. All parts will be printed at 16micron accuracy using Stratasys/Objet 3D printers.
In a press release, Charles Barton, owner of Solid Prototype, says:
Most projects are on a time constraint and donʼt have the time to wait a week or more for necessary parts. Timing is the most important asset to a 3D printing company, as it is has the potential to cut manufacturing times to pieces. Solid Prototype provides their clients with a quote within a few hours, 3D prints their parts in either plastic or rubber (simultaneously, if needed), and then ships them directly within 24 hours nationwide.
