3D Systems has launched today Cubify Design, a parametric CAD tool for advanced 3D modeling projects. Cubify Design is built on the same foundational skills mastered in entry-level Cubify Invent and is designed for complex projects requiring real-world functionality and accuracy.
Cubify Design features the ability to create assemblies allowing for interaction and motion within parts of a design. Users can view models as they will appear in the physical world with accuracy and full motion. Cubify Design includes 2D rendering features making it simple to share drawings when co-creating with others. The software accepts a variety of file formats and exports additional file formats including STL for direct plugin into Cube or CubeX software, making designs 3D print ready.
Features
- Create precise parts with sophisticated 3D modeling tools
- Make assemblies of multiple parts including moving, interlocking and articulated designs
- Check functionality with interference and real weight checks
- Generate basic 2D drawings of your designs
- Import: DXF, DWG, AD_PART, AD_ASM, IGES, STEP
- Export: AD_Part, PDF, DXF, DWG, STL
3D Systems plans to integrate Cubify Design into its Cubify platform and to its Cube and CubeX 3D printer software with direct plugins.
Cubify Design comes with a 14-day free trial, is priced at $199.

I've got Alibre Personal Edition and it is no longer supported. Cubify is the same as Alibre, but I don't want to pay another $200 to buy the same product again.

Are you sure it outputs DXF and DWG? The vendor site says it only outputs STL. Where did you get the DXF and DWG output spec from?

On the other hand, most engineering and professionals uses Windows or Linux as engineering companies typically demand most cost effective options to do a certain task rather having a more expensive Mac for with lesser capability for the same task at hand. Example, Mac has only compatibility with a subset of workstation grade graphics card whereas windows/ machine virtually can get any workstation graphics at any price point.

Can someone please tell me WHY there is almost no 3D applications for MAC? Maybe Im wrong but every creative I know, CD, AD, Film makers..they all have Mac!! Its the Nr. 1 choice for creative people. So why not make applications like this for them as well? /Kaj

This is software that's been available for some time, it's finally been put into the Cubify web site. I think it was called Alibre Personal Edition. I started using the demo two weeks ago, but I'm very happy with it. It seems to have 80% of the features of a pro package Solidworks but for a more comfortable price for hobbyists.
