UK inventor Edward Clifford launched his FilaFab, a low cost plastic extrusion system on Kickstarter back in May and got fully funded. The FilaFab (Filament Fabricator) is capable of converting pellets into fresh filament for your 3D printer with ease.
The newly designed FilaFab has a sleek enclosure and features a hopper lid to keep your plastic dust and contaminant free. The control panel and enclosure are CNC milled from solid sheet to a high quality finish. The FilaFab is both ABS and PLA compatible. It is capable of extruding more than 280 meters in 4 hours.
Specifications:
- Extrusion Rate: 1.2 metres/minute (47 inches/minute) (ABS at 170°C)
- Power Supply: 110-240VAC 50/60Hz
- Maximum Power Consumption: 250 Watts
- Average Power Consumption: 210 Watts
- Temperature Range: room temp (heater off) to 240°C
- Extrusion Temperature: 160°C - 180°C (optimal temperature varies with material)
- Tolerance @ 3mm: + - 0.02mm
- Interchangeable nozzles supplied - 1.75mm and 3mm
Extrusion tube and changeable nozzle
Clifford has also started work on a reeling system to gather and reel up the extruded material. And in the near future he will supply pellets along with the machine so that everyone can start extruding straight away.
The FilaFab is now available for £699 ($1,142 / €839) and has an approximate 10 week lead time.

You should look into the Extrusionbot! They say the machine does Pla and mine does both ABS and PLA without a problem! You just have to change the temperature depending on the plastic that you use!

To anyone considering purchasing a machine from Filafab. I'd think twice before you do as Edward Clifford has still not fulfilled his obligations to his Kickstarter backers, who funded the project to £20,000. He has continually promised to deliver and failed to do so on every occasion so far, and has refused to explain the 3 month delay in shipping the funded machines to his investors. Buyer beware!

Thanks for the article 3ders. We will release a video of FilaFab extruding PLA soon!

Vertical recording? That's a sign of an amateur. Don't tell us you can extrude PLA and neglect to show us PLA being extruded. I've yet to see extruded PLA from one of these small extruders, and I'm suspicious that any of these machines that claim to extrude PLA actually can. They've never shown PLA being extruded, or even the alleged product of extrusion.
