Yesterday, FABULONIA Inc. announced that it has obtained a preliminary injunction in the Harju County Court in Tallinn, Estonia against Secured 3D and ITBS in a contract and copyright infringement lawsuit, pertaining to FABULONIA's entire suite of secure 3D printing and secure 3D streaming technologies.
FABULONIA Inc. is a company based in Tallinn, Estonia which is a pioneer in 3D printing IP security. FABULONIA has several international patents pending for its secure 3D printing technologies – such as a 3D streaming platform, online 3D printer management and IP storage tools, and embedded 3D printer security software. FABULONIA believes technologies used in FabSecure, their secure 3D printing software, have been rebranded by Secured 3D.
Secured 3D is a new startup represented by Anton Vedeshin and John Dogru who was previously involved with FABULONIA's architecture design. ITBS, represented by Anton Vedeshin, was a contract software developer for FABULONIA, according to the court documents on January 6, 2014.
"A company that bases its business and reputation on secure copyright protection cannot overlook suspicions of contract or copyright infringements and therefore, an injunction was sought," said Kaido Loor, Partner at SORAINEN, a leading law firm in the Baltics, on behalf of FABULONIA. The court proceedings in the case, number 2-13-61048, against Secured 3D and ITBS are ongoing, and FABULONIA is defending its technologies internationally.
Perhaps it is helpful to view this intellectual property dispute in the context of the predictions made by Analyst Group Gartner which suggested that 3D printing will result in the loss of at least $100-billion per year in intellectual property globally by 2018.
Gartner presented 10 "Top Predictions for 2014" at the Gartner Symposium/Itxpo held in Orlando, Florida in October of 2013. According to Gartner, we are in the beginnings of a "Digital Industrial Revolution" that threatens to reshape how physical goods are created, and 3D printing is at the heart of it".
