Loveland, Colorado based Aleph Objects announced the launch of their newest desktop 3D printer: LulzBot TAZ 4.
Like the previous LulzBot Taz 1,2 and 3, TAZ 4 is fully open source hardware, so you are free to copy, and/or modify the machine however you want. Like the generations before it, TAZ 4 boasts a spacious 11.7in x 10.8in x 9.8in print area with a controllable heat bed that can print large items, or many small items.
The TAZ 4 features a re-engineered drive rod system designed to improve your print quality, and you will get better first few layers of your prints. The TAZ 4 includes improved Y-axis mounts, that means that setting up your printer is going to take less time than before. You will be able to print in a half-an-hour with your printer, says Aleph Objects team.
Another upgrade is a new 400 watt power supply. The extra power allows you to upgrade your printer with new accessories and add-ons. In addition, the TAZ 4 printer comes with a full assembled electronics case, so you will be able upgrade to LulzBot's forthcoming dual extruder that will allow 3D printing with multiple colors, or multiple materials.

@AMnerd - competing with the big boys is not what fuels invention, take for example, Xerox. Their annual profit portfolio is a mere few percent, I think 5.7% avg. I don't know if any new product or invention would ever happen because where is the motivation?

Still way too expensive. If they want to not be obsolete in the next year they have to do auto leveling/calibration and compete on price with the big boys.
