The world of 3D printing is steadily developing and every week we can find exciting projects on Kickstarter. Mission Street Manufacturing, a California based startup, is seeking $50k of Kickstarter crowdfunding for child-focused 3D printer 'Printeer'.
Printeer is a 3D printer designed for making 3D printing as easy and accessible, especially for children and K-12 education. Instead of needing to learn CAD skills, it will have a companion iPad app that lets you use simple touch controls to make shapes and then print out. It uses PLA plastic filament, which is non-toxic and emits about 1/10th the ultra-fine particles of ABS plastic filament.
"In a digital age, when technology skills are some of the most important a child can learn, is there a way to bridge the gap between the screen and the physical world?" explains Printeer's creators.
"Now there is. 3D printing is tailor-made for today's curious, tech-savvy kids. And that's why we've made Printeer."
Mission Street Manufacturing's goal is not to make a highly precise 3D printer, but a basic tool that allows today's kids to make uncomplicated designs. The startup is already working with schools and educators in California to test its new printer.
The Printeer 3D printer features 150 x 100 x 125 mm (6 x 4 x 5 inches) build envelope. It has a removable build platform that allows finished parts to be easily removed. A clear case prevents accidental contact with heated or moving parts. Moving parts are visible so that kids can see how motors, pulleys, belts, and sliders work together to move a complex machine.
