Cincinnati, OH based startup GeckoTek has announced the launch of its Kickstarter Campaign for the GeckoTek 3D printer Build Plate.
The design and functionality of desktop 3D printers have advanced tremendously, but most people still use blue tape or hair spray, to ensure that the first layer of plastic adheres to the build. These methods have some major limitations. For example, sometimes the level of adhesion is so weak that the object warps or separates during the printing process, or adhesion is too strong and the object breaks during removal. Moreover, blue tape and hair spray must be re-applied every couple of prints. GeckoTek wants to these frustrating issues.
The GeckoTek is a 3D printer build plate with a scientifically developed permanent coating that is designed for low cost desktop fused filament (FFF) 3D printers.
Combining polymer science and nanotechnology, the surface of the GeckoTek Build Plate is engineered to provide the perfect level of adhesion that prevents warping, but still allows easy part removal. Moreover, a single plate can be used without replacement for a large number of 3D prints. The GeckoTek Build Plate works with PLA at room temperature. For the 3D printers with a heated bed it is formulated to work with ABS, HIPS, Nylon and more. You can remove the GeckoTek Plate with the finished part, and if needed, the plate can be gently flexed to pop the part off.
The GeckoTek Build Plate is available customized for any print bed up to 12"x12" for $39, or $25 if you catch the Early Bird Special. Also available is the Magnetic Base Combo, which includes a GeckoTek Build Plate and a machined magnetic base, eliminating the need for brackets or other means of securing the build surface.
