Meet Ollie, an app-controlled robot that spins, drifts, and flips with app-powered tricks. It gets around on two rubber wheels and spins, and can reach speeds of 22km/h. Ollie is programmed for tricks, but it is also designed to be customized by you. Ollie users can switch up your ride with custom tires and hubcaps.
The $99 Ollie robot was released in September by Sphero, aiming to take connected play to the next level with innovative controls and integrated gameplay. You can build your own courses and jumps, and then create custom trick combinations to share with friends. The Ollie is powered by USB charging and can be controlled by an app on your iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth LE.
This week, Sphero have teamed up with Australian 3D design company Makers Empire to launch the Ollie Customizer app. The Ollie Customizer lets you change the look of your Ollie and make it stand out from the crowd. Ollie owners can use the app to create their own hubcap and armour pieces for 3D printing. They can add a unique appearance to their Ollie by selecting one of the predefined design for individual accessories. The design can then be sent to a 3D printer and be printed in their favorite materials, colours and textures.
After you complete your design, you can download its STL file for US$0.99.
Makers Empire is the creator of a 3D design tablet app, called Maker's Empire that offers people with no design experience the ability to design 3D printable objects. It allows everyone to design complex object by assembling simple shapes. They have also teamed up with local 3D printer experts to run programs at three Adelaide primary schools to educate kids about 3D design and 3D printing.
Ollie Customizer is now available on Apple iTunes store and Google play for free.
