Texan 3D printer manufacturer Dim3printing announced the pre-production release of its Dim3W Smart 3D Printing Pen last year. Same as the successful 3D printing pen 3Doodler, The Dim3W pen integrates the same FDM 3D printing technology and allows users to sketch an ABS or PLA plastic 3D objects in free space.
Today the company informs us its 3D printing pen, now called 3DFormer, is coming to Kickstarter. The main features of the 3DFormer are the ergonomic design for easy gripping and advanced cooling technologies to prevent clogging. Its hexagon cylindrical shaped body with 27mm grip width increases the grip span and comfort. The separated buttons for speed and operation control are designed to fit both left- and right-handed users.
According to the team, 3DFormer uses the state-of-the-art cooling tech found in the enterprise electronic systems for CPU cooling. This localized natural convection cooling method keeps the right temperature for extrusion and assures quick heat dissipation.
The 3D printing pen also has two different print speed options to give users greater control of what they draw. The min flow rate is 0.5mm/second while the max flow rate can reach to 20 mm/second. The pen can use both ABS or PLA filament.
"We believe that the best way to get ourselves educated with 3D printing and digitized manufacturing is to start with enjoyable playing experiences," said Dim3printing's Bin Hu.
With these options Dim3printing is still keeping the price very low. The first 200 'Diehard Supporters' can get a 3DFormer ABS 3D pen for just $40 (retail price $69.99), and early bird pledges start at $50. The 3DFormer will begin shipping sometime in April. Thank you for your comments. This is not a clone. We've been working on this pen for almost one year and a half and spent lot of efforts to re-engineer the products on the gripping, cooling, as well as materials. This pen is optimized for ABS extrusion while being able to take the conventional PLA as well. We will release a customized PLA which is optimized to the extrusion of ABS temperature as well which will make this pen the ideal one for fun and education.

Actually it is not "FDM", since there is no "fused deposition". More like FAEM - Free Air Extrusion Modeling.
