Everyone’s favorite moments in life are linked to various factors, like what you were doing, who was there, where you were, whether the sun was shining, whether snow was blowing. Even the simplest moments, like cozying up over a hot cup of tea as the wind blows outside, can be the most cathartic. Commemorating or sharing these memories can sometimes be difficult, however, especially when pictures are lacking. Fortunately, Love & Robots, a Dublin based jewelry tech brand, has found a unique and elegant way of capturing those moments through their most recent collection, Windswept.
Windswept, which may very well be the world’s first jewelry collection created using weather data, is a customizable, almost infinite collection of 3D printed pendants and earrings. That is, each piece of jewelry’s shape and orientation is based on weather data, specifically wind data, from a particular time or place, making each piece unique. Essentially, Love & Robots have developed an innovative system through which their clients can select any location in world on any day of the past 50 years, and have the wind from that day virtually blown onto a piece of also virtual cloth. Watching the virtual cloth billow, clients can then pause the wind when they are happy with a design and have that frozen moment turned into an elegant piece of windswept jewelry.
Emer O’Daly, CEO and co-founder of Love & Robots explains the inspiration behind the collection saying, “So much of what we feel attached to, what we remember, is inextricably linked to a particular place & time. We wanted to realise that in a material way by linking a particular date and place to a personalised piece of jewellery.”
The innovative and sentimental pieces, which are available exclusively through the Love & Robots online store, are available in a number of materials, including sterling silver, 14k gold, 14k rose-gold, gold-plated, and rose gold-plated brass. Each piece is manufactured with 3D printing technologies on a made-to-order basis and ranges in price from €185 to €315 (roughly $205 to $350).
Whether the wind was blowing 6m/h on your wedding day, or 20m/h on the day your child was born, or 15m/h the day your favorite record was released, Windswept will give you a way to both remember and share your favorite moments in a subtle but sincere way.
As a design brand, Love & Robots has situated itself right at the intersection of fashion and technology. Using technologies like 3D modeling and 3D printing, the brand is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in jewelry design and offers its clients original and interesting pieces. “We at Love & Robots are looking at how 3d printing will revolutionize the design and fashion industries,” says O’Daly. “We look to create interactive experiential pieces where the customer is truly part of the creation process.”
