This week has already seen some pretty major news from the 3D printing industry: Formlabs finally introduced its Fuse 1 SLS 3D printer as well as its Form Cell automated production system, Solidscape just released its S300 3D printer series, and XYZprinting unveiled its first DLP 3D printer, the Nobel Superfine.
Though it may seem hard to compete with these established brands, New Jersey company Opencreators is hoping its newly launched 3D printer is up to the task. Dubbed the Opencreators BS210, the new 3D printer is notable for its automatic build plate changer.
Launched today via a Kickstarter campaign, the fully automated BS210 3D printer promises high productivity and continuous 3D printing for up to 24 hours thanks to its ABC build plate changing module. Early bird backers can get their hands on Opencreators’ new 3D printer for as little as $2,899, which is quite the steal when compared to the expected retail price of $3,899.
As the diagram below shows, the ABC Module is basically a tool which enables new build plates to be fed into the 3D printer tray after a print is complete. This continuous action (which can be repeated as long as there are build plates stacked up on the module) means that makers can feasibly print without limits. (Most reward options come with 5 Borosilicate glass plates.)
Other notable features of the Opencreators BS210 include a 360 SLP Module (360 degree Super Leveling Probe), which allows the 3D printer to “recognize the curvature of a build plate and a vertical XY axis completely.” In other words, the 360 DLP Module is equipped with microscopic sensors that can detect the surface of the build plate and can ensure an “even and consistent gap” between the 3D printer nozzle and the plate. This feature helps to reduce the risk of print failures.
With a build volume of 210 x 210 x 250 mm and a layer resolution of between 0.05 mm and 1 mm, the Opencreators BS210 3D printing specs are nothing out of the ordinary, but when combined with the continuous printing capability, the simple-looking FFF 3D printer gets a whole lot more appealing.
Opencreators, which has offices in the U.S. and South Korea, also says that its new 3D printer is remarkably quiet when operating, thanks to special TMC motor drives which not only reduce noise and vibrations but also help to resolve unsteadiness or wobbliness that can occur during a print job.
Fitted with dual extruders, the BS210 3D printer will also make it easy for users to 3D print soluble supports. In fact, most of the Kickstarter rewards for the 3D printer include 1000 grams of a water-soluble PVA support material.
“BS210 will completely change people’s production and consumption culture” said Minhyuk, CEO of Opencreators. “We call it a new technology for Mass Customization”. The Kickstarter campaign is expected to launch today, June 6.
