Dutch 3D printing company Ultimaker is continually expanding its offering of 3D printing materials, tools, and accessories. The company recently announced a slew of new product developments that are geared towards improving and enhancing its Ultimaker 2+ and dual-extrusion Ultimaker 3 3D printing systems.
Included in the new offerings are a new Polypropylene (PP) material, new NFC Spools, the Ultimaker 3 Advanced 3D Printing Kit, new print core nozzles, and an upgraded version of its Cura slicing software.
"Our Ultimaker 3 has changed the way companies and organizations produce prototype parts, small-scale production, tools, jigs and fixtures," commented Paul Heiden, Senior Vice-President, Ultimaker Product Management. "With the additions of multiple materials, kits and accessories, as well as software upgrades, users can better optimize and maintain printers at scale and achieve consistent and high-quality output."
Now, let’s look at the new product developments more closely, starting with Ultimaker’s new Polypropylene material. According to the company, its PP material offers users “excellent chemical and temperature resistance,” and is therefore well suited for such applications as printing electrical components.
One of the most widely used plastics in the world, PP is especially popular amongst designers and engineers, as it can be used for making durable functional prototypes that very closely resemble end-use parts. The material offered by Ultimaker is currently available starting at €39.50 ($45) per 500 g.
The company will also now offer new NFC Spools in TPU, CPE+, and PC. The new printing profiles will enable Ultimaker users to benefit from a broader variety of engineering-grade materials. According to the company, “These profiles ensure professional and reliable results for producing prototypes, tools, and more.”
Next up is the Ultimaker 3 Advanced 3D Printing Kit, available for €99 ($112). The kit includes one front enclosure, 25 adhesion sheets, one adhesive applicator, and one glass plate for the Ultimaker 3 printer. There is also an Advanced 3D Printing Kit available for the Ultimaker 2 and 2+ for €90 ($102).
Ultimaker’s new 0.8 mm and 0.4 mm nozzle sizes for print cores give users more options in terms of how to 3D print both build materials and dissolvable support materials. The new nozzles reportedly help to improve print speeds and enable more complex geometries for printed parts.
Last but not least, Ultimaker has announced the newest version of its Cura slicing software, Cura 2.6.1. The upgraded software features new tools such as enhanced support adhesion settings, easier and faster model auto-arrange options, support meshes, and extruder buttons.
