Chinese 3D printing and scanning expert SHINING 3D has announced a new partnership with California-based metrology software developer Verisurf. Together, the companies will offer consumers a complete reverse engineering solution.
That is, by combining SHINING 3D’s Einscan 3D scanning technology with Verisurf’s established measurement software, the companies are aiming to deliver an affordable, end-to-end process for design and reverse engineering.
Reverse engineering is a valuable process in the manufacturing industry, through which parts that have already been produced are analyzed and measured to allow for exact reproduction. This technique is especially useful for manufacturing replacement parts: for instance, if a vintage car needed a new part that was no longer in production, reverse engineering could be a solution.
Through their collaboration, SHINING 3D and Verisurf will be offering customers a combo solution that includes an Einscan handheld 3D scanner and Verisurf’s 3D Scan Data & Reverse Engineering Suite. As a bonus, clients who buy the paired products before December 31, 2017 will get a combined 20 per cent discount on them (10 per cent off each product).
SHINING 3D’s line of handheld 3D scanners include the EinScan-Pro, which was launched at CES 2016, and the EinScan-Pro+, which was launched earlier this year and which adds an improved HD scanning mode and scanning speeds compared to the EinScan-Pro.
SHINING 3D's EinScan-Pro+ scanner
SHINING 3D’s handheld scanners are notable for their four scanning modes, which include Handheld Rapid Scan, which is useful for scanning larger objects in a rapid manner; Handheld HD Scan, which is well suited for scanning objects with fine details; Auto Scan, which consists of a table set-up and 360-degree capture that is ideal for smaller parts; and Free Scan, which consists of attaching the scanner to a tripod for capturing large-scale scans.
Verisurf’s 3D Scan Data & Reverse Engineering Suite, for its part, offers a number of tools and features which enable the editing, meshing, and advanced surfacing of points, point clouds, and mesh data. The CAD-based software is also equipped with 3D surfacing, solid modeling, drafting, and intelligent model associative GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) features for 3D modeling applications.
EinScan-Pro 3D scanner
By pairing EinScan’s 3D scanning hardware with Verisurf’s comprehensive software suite, the two companies say they are providing a “complete solution” that will enable users to more easily and efficiently reverse engineer parts and complete other 3D digitizing tasks.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of this reverse engineering solution together with Verisurf,” said Oscar Meza, vice president of global sales at SHINING 3D. “The special software suite makes it even more affordable for small labs or individuals to use the latest in highly accurate and efficient 3D technology.”
SHINING 3D is one of China’s leading 3D technology companies, offering a number of products related to 3D scanning, 3D printing, materials, and design.
Verisurf Software, Inc. was founded in 1993 with a focus on aerospace part inspection. Now, over two decades later, the company has expanded its scope to encompass the automotive and medical industries, to name but a few.

I've got two problems with this article. A scanner that is over $5000 could hardly be said to be targeted at "consumers" and 10% off of two products is not the same as 20% off.
