Wipro3D, the additive manufacturing division of India’s Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, has opened a new metal 3D printing facility in Bengaluru. The 1,200-square-foot solution center is reportedly India’s most cutting-edge metal AM facility.
With its new 3D printing center, which was inaugurated by Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, Wipro3D is not only aiming to bolster India’s AM market but also to bring its metal 3D printing solutions to the world.
“Based on the confidence developed from our India operations, we are planning to take Wipro3D global,” said Pratik Kumar, CEO of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering.
The new and AS9100Rev D certified additive manufacturing facility is reportedly equipped with a range of state-of-the-art technologies including metal AM systems, post-processing equipment, characterization technologies, and qualification and validation facilities.
Wipro3D was launched in 2012 and has become a mainstay in the Indian 3D printing market. The company has provided additive manufacturing solutions and services to a range of industries including the aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and engineering sectors.
Last fall, Wipro’s 3D printing division partnered with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop new 3D printed antennae with the help of its in-house EOS 3D printers. The antennae have since been sent up to space, marking the first metal 3D printed part that India has sent into space.
“India’s first functional metal AM component in space was built by Wipro3D,” commented Ajay Parikh, business head of Wipro3D. “We have built competencies and offerings across additive consulting, engineering, manufacturing, research and development as well as turnkey solutions to deliver impactful business outcomes for our customers. We see 3D printing or additive manufacturing as a critical component in the digital manufacturing and future-proofing strategy of any enterprise.”
With its newly established metal 3D printing solutions center, Wipro3D is hoping to expand its additive manufacturing partnerships and collaborations within India, but also across the globe. Existing partners of Wipro3D include software company Authentise, consulting firm Print Form, Israel Aerospace Industries, and others.
