An innovative, interactive 3-D printing design tool and platform is just launched on Kickstarter. inkimals, created by John Briscella & Svetlana Blum Briscella at AMINIMAL Studio is a platform for creating custom colour-illustrated 3D printed designer toys.
Each inkimal is fully customizable, and your can make it in just three simple steps:
First you choose your favorite character from the templates created by AMINIMAL Studio, and add as many features, colors and patterns as you wish using either pencils, markers, crayons or charcoal. AMINIMAL Studio has also created a web-based tool that allows you to design and view your creation online.
Then you scan your design and send it to AMINIMAL Studio. Using 3D modeling and texture mapping AMINIMAL Studio converts your 2D drawing into a 3D model. After the image processing, a preview of your inkimal will be available to approve your artwork and purchase a 3D print.
Once you place your order, designers at the studio will use full color 3-D printing to produce your customized Inkimal and then ship right to your doorstep.
Four figures are available now - Lil Dude, Ghost, Stryder, Rabbit. The AMINIMAL Studio plans to launch their beta site in February 2014 so fans will be able to upload designs and preview the 3D creations.
With backer's support, AMINIMAL Studio hopes to add more character templates and perfect the electronic design function. For $30 or more backers will get their own 3D printed inkimals.
