3D printing marketplace and file-sharing website Threeding and Sculpteo, a 3D printing service company, announced their partnership for production of physical models from Threeding's online catalogue. Starting from March, the 3D printable models available at Threeding will be not only downloadable but also ready to order as 3D printed copies. Through this partnership, Threeding expands its services and targets customers who do not possess a 3D printer but are interested in the marketplace's products.
Until now, Threeding's customers needed to have access to a 3D printer in order to make use of the files they downloaded from the marketplace. Now most items can be ordered as 3D printed copies and will be shipped worldwide. Sculpteo will take care of the 3D printing process in their facilities in USA and France. Threeding's customers can choose from 6 materials and over 40 different colors for their 3D printed objects.
Both Sculpteo and Threeding are expecting large synergies to arise from the partnership. "With this move we make 3D printing available for a larger customer base, which did not have access to our products before." says Stan Partalev co-founder of Threeding. "Sculpteo is a perfect partner for us, knowledgeable and experienced in the printing process so that we can ensure the highest quality for our customers."
"People need to get in touch with 3D printed objects, they need to feel and see them in order to find out how useful this technology is. Together with Threeding we are making a step to develop the community and the knowledge about 3D printing," says Arthur Cassaignau, Business Developer at Sculpteo.
The new service will take a white label form. Designers with concerns about their copyrights will be provided with options to restrict downloads and determine for themselves whether or not their models will be available for physical delivery (or even only for physical delivery). Together with these 3D printing services, Threeding is also adding new functionalities which will improve their users' experience. The company will start accepting bank transfers for orders above $100, through Paypal Express Checkout, better visualization, etc.
Both Threeding and Sculpteo are expecting a significant sales increase by expanding the customer base of 3D printed products.
