The 2016 edition of 3D printing expo formnext, which wrapped up last week in Frankfurt, was ripe with new 3D printing innovations, including new 3D printing systems, new upgrades, and a slew of exciting new partnerships between additive manufacturing companies. One such partnership, which was announced on the expo’s last day, was between Chinese company Farsoon Technologies and German company Laser Sintering Service (LSS).
As part of the partnership, Farsoon will acquire LSS shares, and the German company will become Farsoon’s designated European distributor, service support, and Farsoon’s European Research and Development Center. As announced at formnext 2016, the companies will aim to combine their expertise in the additive manufacturing field in order to strengthen and build their technology and service solutions.
“I see this is a natural next step for our two companies,” said Dr. Xiaoshu Xu, Chairman of Farsoon Technologies. “Over the past years Farsoon and LSS have fostered a very complimentary relationship. We are very happy to establish with LSS a strong setup for the Europeans market and to seal our partnership which has grown to be more than just business partners.”
Guido Elbrecht, CEO of LSS, echoed the sentiment, stating: “Having started as a service provider for laser sintering equipment and now being a well-known solution development partner with an excellent reputation, we see this significant investment and commitment from Farsoon as a chance to grow LSS faster and expand out activities in Europe.”
LSS, which is one of Europe’s largest 3D printing service providers, has been active within the industry for over two decades, primarily in the areas of laser sintering and light curing technologies. Founded in 2009, Farsoon Technologies, also known as Hunan Farsoon High-tech Co.,Ltd, has become recognized as one of the leading suppliers of total solutions for Selective Laser Sintering and Melting systems in China and even abroad.
Farsoon Technology's 402P 3D printing system
In addition to announcing the partnership with LSS, Farsoon Technologies also debuted its new 403P series plastic laser sintering system at formnext 2016. The new laser sintering system boasts enhanced productivity and a high-temperature build chamber that is specially designed to process PA6 material. PA6, which was introduced in November 2015, was itself the result of a partnership between Farsoon, LSS, and German chemical company BSAF.
Dirk Simon, 3D Printing Business Director at BASF New Business GmbH, said of the new system: “BASF is positively impressed by Farsoon taking leadership by reducing costs of plastic part fabrication simultaneously with increasing performance and functionality in laser sintering. Based on improvements with economy of scale, BASF supports this approach for more affordable PA6 parts fabricated by laser sintering with reducing the price of BASF Ultrasint PA6 powder by up to 20% for higher purchase quantities effective immediately.”
