Israeli Startup ShapeDo announces today its official launch of ShapeDo.com, an online repository of 3D objects. ShapeDo focuses on community driven design that allows everyone to work together and take part in designing objects. So when you upload a 3D object (STL and SCAD formats supported) to ShapeDo anyone can download this object to their own account and create derivative work.
Ari Isaacs, CEO and a founder at ShapeDo: "What really got me into the maker community is the way everyone works together. There is no competition: curious brilliant people hang out and build stuff. Because we want to hack the world, because robots and 3D printers are awesome, and open-source robots are even better. That is exactly how we built ShapeDo – A place where everyone is working together to build stuff."
"We built ShapeDo with 3D designers in mind." says Amit Dar, co-founder of ShapeDo. "The user doesn't see any code, all the magic happens in the backend." The 3D viewer option displays objects visually in the browser. An object network map lets users track all the changes to an object. ShapeDo also features open gallery of 3D shapes and built-in Social network.
"The site is free to use with open source licenses, will always be." Guy Sheffer, ShapeDo CTO told us. But it also allows 'Private shapes' which include all the site's main features but in a closed and private area (paid). "We built this because we want to have a place for people to work on large open source 3D projects." Sheffer added.
Check out ShapeDo's demo video below about how to collaborate on 3D STL files.
