MakerBot announces today that its online consumers in China will now be able to purchase MakerBot 3D Printers, filament and 3D scanner using Alipay ePass payment option.
Launched in December 2004 by Alibaba Group, Alipay provides a secure and convenient way for individuals and businesses to make and receive payments online and on mobile phones. Alipay offers payment and/or escrow services for transactions on Alibaba Group's marketplaces such as Taobao and Tmall, as well as to third parties in China. According to iResearch, Alipay is the largest third-party online payment service provider in China by total payment volume.
MakerBot believes that with the addition of Alipay ePass even more consumers in China will be interested in purchasing MakerBot 3D printing and scanning products. MakerBot customers in China can now log in to their Alipay accounts during checkout on makerbot's website to utilize Alipay payment options from their Alipay accounts.
"We are always looking for ways to simplify the buying experience for our customers," noted Jenny Lawton, acting CEO of MakerBot. "Offering an Alipay ePass checkout option for our Chinese customers is another way we are working to simplify the process."
"Alipay and MakerBot have come together to provide what we believe to be a seamless shopping experience for Chinese customers and give them direct access to MakerBot products and solutions," said Jingming Li, president and chief architect of Alipay U.S.
